Choose the AirMed 3 when the air problem is chemical rather than just dusty: its 3-inch carbon bed holds more than double the carbon of the AirMed 1, and it includes the finer Super HEPA filter as standard. Maintenance & Filter Life

- Activated carbon filter: replace every 2 to 3 years, sooner under heavy VOC or solvent load

To change the main filters you turn the unit off, unplug it, lay it on its top, and open the base with a #2 Phillips screwdriver. Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between the Exec and Vocarb carbon blends?
Exec is the standard activated carbon and it covers the majority of chemical and odor problems well. Vocarb is a specialty blend tuned specifically for VOCs and chemical fumes, so it's the one to choose if you're reacting to off-gassing from a renovation, new furniture, or solvents. You pick the blend when you order, and you can switch later by buying the other carbon filter.
Should I get the AirMed 1 or the AirMed 3?
Both are the same compact size. The AirMed 1 uses a 1-inch carbon bed and a medical HEPA filter, which is right for everyday dust, pollen, pet dander, and light odors. The AirMed 3 carries a 3-inch carbon bed with more than double the carbon and a finer Super HEPA filter, so it's the one to buy when the problem is chemical: renovation fumes, off-gassing, solvents, or strong odors that keep returning. It costs slightly more.
How is the AirMed 3 Supreme different?
The AirMed 3 Supreme uses the same 3-inch carbon depth and the same Super HEPA filter, in a taller body with a stronger fan: 170 CFM instead of 100, and 16 pounds of carbon instead of 12. That extra airflow lets it clean a larger or higher-ceilinged room, up to 640 sq ft. For a room within the 375 sq ft range, the standard AirMed 3 is enough.
Do I need the UV-C lamp?
For most homes, no. The AirMed 3 does its real work through the carbon and Super HEPA filters, and they handle chemicals and particles on their own. The optional UV-C germicidal lamp adds a supplementary layer aimed at airborne bacteria, viruses, and mold if you specifically want it. It doesn't produce ozone.
How loud is it?
The AirMed 3 runs at 40 dB on its lowest speed, quiet enough to sleep next to, and up to 60 dB on high, closer to normal conversation. The variable-speed dial lets you set it anywhere in between.
Can I run it 24/7?
Yes. The AirMed 3 is built for continuous operation, and running it non-stop on a low setting is how AllerAir recommends using it. It draws very little power, 0.3 amps on 115V, so it costs little to leave on.
Does the AirMed 3 produce ozone?
No. The AirMed 3 cleans air by filtration only: a pre-filter, a deep activated carbon bed, and a Super HEPA filter. There's no ionizer and no ozone-generating process. The optional UV-C lamp doesn't create ozone either.
Where do I get replacement filters?

What's the warranty?
The AirMed 3 comes with a 3-year warranty on labor and a 5-year warranty on parts such as the motor, cord, and switch. Expendable items like pre-filters and filters aren't covered, and the warranty is for the original purchaser.
