Airpura T600 DLX Air Purifier (Tobacco & Cigar Smoke)

The Airpura T600 DLX is built for one job most purifiers do badly: smoke. Tobacco, cigar, and cannabis smoke carry sticky tar, combustion gases, and fine particles all at once, and a plain carbon filter clogs on the tar before it ever gets to the smell. The T600 DLX handles all three in sequence, led by a dedicated Tar-Barrier prefilter that traps the tar first so the main carbon bed stays free to do its real work on odor and gases.
Behind the Tar-Barrier sits a 26 lb bed of enhanced activated carbon, impregnated with potassium iodide to reach a broad range of smoke gases and VOCs, then a HEPA-barrier post filter for fine smoke particles. It's the pick for homes with indoor smoking, secondhand smoke, or shared-building infiltration. Wildfire smoke is a secondary fit here: if seasonal wildfire is your main concern, the V600 is purpose-built for it. Need a larger space? The T700 DLX is compared below.
How the T600 DLX Compares: T600 DLX vs T700 DLX
Both T-series DLX units run the identical smoke-fighting stack: the Tar-Barrier prefilter, a 26 lb enhanced carbon bed, and a HEPA-barrier post filter. They separate on one thing, the size of the space. The T600 DLX covers rooms up to about 2,000 sq ft. The T700 DLX adds a stronger motor and more airflow for larger, more open areas and dedicated smoking rooms.

Choose the T600 DLX when smoke is your problem and the space is a room, an apartment, or a home up to about 2,000 sq ft. It carries the full Tar-Barrier plus enhanced-carbon stack, just sized for normal rooms. The T700 DLX is the better call for a large great room, a lounge, a dedicated smoking or cigar room, or anywhere smoke is heavy and spread out, since it adds a 635 CFM motor and up to 2,500 sq ft of coverage.
Smoke isn't quite the problem? If your main concern is wildfire smoke and seasonal VOC spikes, the V600 is the dedicated wildfire unit. For everyday odors and allergens, the R600 does the job for less, and for pollen, dust, and fine particles a True HEPA model like the I600 is the right tool. Fighting broad household chemicals, formaldehyde, germs and mold, or you need odor-free carbon for chemical sensitivity? Each has its own 600-series unit.
Coverage is based on 8-ft ceilings (2 air exchanges per hour) and varies with layout, ceiling height, and how heavy the smoke is.
Is the Airpura T600 DLX Right for You?
The T600 DLX is for homes where smoke is the daily reality, and where a standard purifier gives up on the tar and the smell.
It's an especially strong fit if you:
✔ Have indoor smoking or heavy secondhand smoke from cigarettes or cigars
✔ Deal with cannabis smoke and lingering weed odor
✔ Live in an apartment or condo where smoke drifts in from neighboring units
✔ Get wildfire smoke infiltrating the home during fire season
✔ Are sensitive to chemical fumes, VOCs, or strong combustion odors
Great fit for:
✔ Living rooms and open living areas up to about 2,000 sq ft
✔ Smoking rooms, dens, and man caves where smoke is regular
✔ Apartments with shared air and smoke infiltration
✔ Bars, lounges, and offices that allow or absorb smoke
✔ Homes in wildfire-prone regions as a secondary line of defense
What the Airpura T600 DLX Removes
Tar & Sticky Combustion Byproducts (Tar-Barrier Prefilter)
Smoke is different from ordinary odor because it carries tar: a sticky residue that coats surfaces, clogs filters, and leaves the stale smell behind long after the smoke clears. The T600 DLX meets it first with a dedicated Tar-Barrier prefilter that traps tar and heavy combustion particles before they reach the carbon. That's what keeps the main filters working and sets the T-series apart from a general-purpose carbon unit.
Smoke Gases, Chemicals & Odors (Enhanced Impregnated Carbon)
The 26 lb carbon bed is impregnated with potassium iodide, which helps it grab smoke gases that plain carbon lets slip. It handles:
- Smoke odors from tobacco, cigars, and cannabis, including the stale smell that settles into rooms and fabric
- Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from smoke, cleaning products, and building materials
- Combustion byproducts and airborne chemicals released as things burn
- Named gases such as benzene, toluene, formaldehyde, ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, and sulfur dioxide
Airpura's carbon blends are made to address over 4,000 named airborne chemicals, which is why the T-series is the pick for smoke-heavy and chemically demanding rooms.
Particles (HEPA-Barrier Post Filter)
After the tar and the gases are handled, a HEPA-barrier post filter gives the air a final pass, capturing 95% of airborne particles as small as 1 micron, including fine smoke particles and the carbon dust that naturally sheds from the carbon bed. So the air leaving the unit is clear of the smoke particles, the tar, and the gases together.
Good to know: the T600 DLX is a smoke-first unit, and its HEPA barrier is a particle filter, not a certified True HEPA. If your main concern is pollen, dust, and pet dander rather than smoke, a True HEPA model like the R600 or I600 is the better match.
Key Design Features
Dedicated Tar-Barrier Prefilter
A tar-trapping prefilter (570 sq in) sits ahead of the carbon and catches the sticky combustion residue that would otherwise clog it. This is the T-series' signature, and it's why the T handles smoke that overwhelms other purifiers.
Enhanced Impregnated Carbon Bed
26 lb of potassium-iodide-impregnated activated carbon in a 3-inch bed with about 570 square inches of surface. The impregnation reaches smoke gases plain carbon misses, and the depth gives the air longer contact time on each pass.
Pressure-Sealed Filter Chamber
Airpura's pressure seal and felt gaskets force all incoming air through the filters instead of letting it slip around them, so every pass actually gets cleaned.
All-Metal Housing
Powder-coated steel with felt gaskets and a separate electrical chamber. No plastic or rubber off-gassing to add to the air you're trying to clean.
Motor Out of the Airflow
The motor sits outside the clean-air path, so filtered air isn't blown back over it and picking up contaminants on the way out.
360° Air Distribution
A streamlined inlet pulls polluted air in from all sides and returns clean air evenly across the room.
Regular or Super Gas? Choosing Your T600 DLX Carbon
Every T600 DLX ships with the enhanced impregnated carbon as its standard, so even the Regular option is built for smoke. The choice is whether you need Airpura to tune that carbon for an unusual or heavy chemical load on top of the smoke. You just pick the one you need.
Regular T600 DLX (Enhanced Impregnated Carbon)
- 26 lb enhanced activated carbon, a blend of potassium iodide and coconut shell (17% / 83%). The potassium iodide speeds up how quickly the carbon binds and removes smoke gases and chemicals
- The right choice for tobacco, cigar, and cannabis smoke, wildfire smoke, and everyday combustion odors and VOCs
Super Gas 600 DLX (Higher-Grade Upgrade, +$100)
- A higher-grade, application-specific carbon blend tuned for more aggressive removal of specific gases and chemicals beyond standard smoke and odor
- Worth the extra spend when you're dealing with unusual or high concentrations of airborne chemicals, or a chemical exposure the Regular blend isn't targeted for
Fighting one specific chemical? Airpura offers over 400 carbon blends covering more than 4,000 named airborne chemicals. If you know what you're up against, contact us and we'll help you spec the right one.
Maintenance & Filter Life
The T600 DLX is built for long service intervals, with one filter that needs more frequent attention because it's doing the dirtiest job. It has four filters, each on its own schedule:
- Tar-Barrier prefilter: replace every 3 to 6 months, more often in heavy smoke, since it takes the sticky tar first
- Cleanable prefilter: vacuum through the grille periodically; replace about every 12 months
- HEPA-barrier post filter: replace about every 12 months
- Carbon filter: replace as needed in heavy smoke, or about every 24 months under normal use
Carbon canisters are refillable, which keeps long-term running costs down. Running the unit continuously on low is the simplest way to keep smoke and odor control steady, then turn it up during active smoke. It draws about 40 watts on low and 120 watts on high, roughly a household light bulb.
Frequently Asked Questions
Should I get the T600 DLX or the T700 DLX?
Start with your space and how heavy the smoke is. The T600 DLX covers rooms up to about 2,000 sq ft and suits most homes, apartments, and single smoking rooms. The T700 DLX runs the same Tar-Barrier and 26 lb carbon stack but adds a stronger 635 CFM motor for larger, more open spaces up to about 2,500 sq ft, like great rooms, lounges, and dedicated cigar rooms. Same smoke defense, bigger engine.
What does the Tar-Barrier prefilter do, and why does it matter for smoke?
Smoke carries tar, a sticky residue that coats surfaces and clogs ordinary filters fast. The Tar-Barrier is a dedicated prefilter that traps that tar and heavy combustion particles before they reach the carbon and HEPA-barrier filters. That does two things: it keeps the expensive main filters from clogging early, and it stops the tar that causes the stale, lingering smoke smell. It's the piece that lets the T-series keep working in a tobacco or cigar room where a general-purpose purifier would choke. Because it takes the dirtiest hit, it's also the filter you replace most often, every 3 to 6 months.
What's the difference between Regular and Super Gas carbon?
The Regular T600 DLX already ships with enhanced carbon impregnated with potassium iodide, which is built for smoke gases, VOCs, and combustion odors. That's the right choice for almost everyone dealing with tobacco, cigar, cannabis, or wildfire smoke. Super Gas 600 DLX is a paid upgrade (about $100 more) that swaps in a higher-grade, application-specific carbon blend for unusual or high concentrations of a specific chemical, on top of the smoke. If your problem is smoke, choose Regular. If you're also fighting a heavy or unusual chemical exposure, Super Gas is worth it.
Does the T600 DLX handle wildfire smoke?
Yes. The Tar-Barrier and carbon stack captures wildfire smoke particles, gases, and odor, so the T600 DLX is a solid secondary line of defense when fire-season smoke drifts indoors. That said, if wildfire smoke is your primary reason for buying, the V600 is Airpura's dedicated wildfire and VOC unit and is the more targeted choice. The T-series is built first for the daily tar and smell of tobacco and cigar smoke.
Is the T600 DLX a True HEPA purifier? Will it help with allergies?
The T600 DLX is a smoke-first, carbon-and-tar unit. It includes a HEPA-barrier post filter that captures 95% of particles down to 1 micron, including fine smoke particles, but it's not a certified True HEPA allergy purifier. If your priority is pollen, dust, pet dander, and the finest particles, look at a True HEPA model instead, such as the everyday R600 or the allergy-focused I600.
How much are replacement filters, and where do I get them?
Genuine T600 DLX replacement filters are available right here at Pure Indoor Living, starting at $69.98. Each filter replaces on its own schedule, so you only buy the one that's due. The Tar-Barrier prefilter is the one you'll reach for most (it comes in a 6-pack), since it takes the tar first; the carbon and HEPA-barrier filters last far longer.
Does the T600 DLX produce ozone?
No. The T600 DLX cleans air by mechanical filtration only: the Tar-Barrier, carbon adsorption, and a particle post filter. There's no ionizer and no ozone-generating process, so it won't add ozone to a room you're already trying to clear of smoke.
Does it arrive assembled, and what does the warranty cover?
Yes, the T600 DLX ships as a single assembled unit on casters, with no tools or assembly required. Unpack it, plug it in, and choose your speed. It's backed by Airpura's 5-year parts and 10-year labor warranty and is ETL certified to ANSI/UL 507. See the User Manual for setup details.
Is this a medical device?
No. The Airpura T600 DLX is a residential and commercial air purifier for general indoor air quality. It's not a medical device and isn't intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease or health condition.
