Airpura F700 Air Purifier (The Large-Space Formaldehyde Specialist)

Formaldehyde is one of the hardest indoor pollutants to clear, and it gets harder to stay ahead of as the space grows. It off-gasses slowly for months or years from new flooring, cabinetry, pressed-wood furniture, and building materials, and a HEPA-only purifier does nothing to touch it. The Airpura F700 is the large-space version of Airpura's formaldehyde purifier: its potassium permanganate carbon chemically oxidizes formaldehyde and VOCs instead of only trapping them, and a stronger 635 CFM motor turns the air over often enough to keep open floor plans and whole levels ahead of the off-gassing, while a True HEPA filter handles the dust, pollen, and particles.
It's the right unit for a newly built or freshly renovated home, an open-plan main floor, a great room, or a whole level where new cabinetry, flooring, or furniture is off-gassing across a large area, and for anyone with formaldehyde or chemical sensitivity (MCS) who needs that coverage over a big space. Filtering a single room instead? The F600 does the same job for smaller areas, and both the F600 and the Super Gas carbon option are compared below.
How the F700 Compares: F600 vs F700
The F-series is Airpura's formaldehyde line: a potassium permanganate carbon bed that oxidizes formaldehyde and VOCs, paired with a True HEPA filter for particles. The F600 and F700 share the same carbon chemistry, the same True HEPA, the same all-metal build, and the same Regular or Super Gas carbon choice. They differ in the size of space each one handles: the F700 runs a stronger motor, so it clears larger, more open areas.

Choose the F700 when formaldehyde and VOC control needs to cover a large area rather than a single room: a great room, an open-plan main floor, or a whole level up to about 2,500 sq ft, where its 635 CFM motor keeps the air turning over fast enough to stay ahead of continuous off-gassing. The F600 is the better call for a bedroom, a single room, or one level up to about 2,000 sq ft, with the same carbon and the same True HEPA in a unit sized for a smaller space.
Not sure formaldehyde is your main issue? The F700's job is formaldehyde and VOCs specifically, the off-gassing from new construction, cabinetry, flooring, and furniture. If your concern is something else: germs, mold, or viruses point to the P700, a broad mix of household chemicals and gases to the C700, wildfire smoke to the V700, allergies and particles to the I700, everyday all-purpose air to the R700, and the most sensitive odor-free MCS households to the G700.
Coverage assumes 8-ft ceilings. The 2,500 sq ft figure is a retailer estimate.
Is the Airpura F700 Right for You?
The F700 is built for one problem above all others, at scale: formaldehyde and the VOCs that come with new materials and furnishings, across a large or open space.
It's an especially strong fit if you:
✔ Just built, renovated, or remodeled a large or open-plan space (new flooring, paint, cabinetry, drywall)
✔ Need formaldehyde control across an open floor plan, great room, or whole level
✔ Brought in new pressed-wood or foam furniture that still has a smell
✔ Have formaldehyde sensitivity or chemical sensitivity (MCS) and want big-space coverage
✔ Want gases and particles handled by one all-metal, no-off-gassing unit
Great fit for:
✔ Open living areas, great rooms, or whole levels up to about 2,500 sq ft
✔ Newly finished or freshly furnished large spaces
✔ New-construction main floors where off-gassing spreads through the home
✔ Anyone who wants that 'new home' or 'new furniture' smell gone across a big footprint
What the Airpura F700 Helps Remove
Formaldehyde, VOCs & Chemical Gases (Permanganate Carbon)
This is the F700's whole reason to exist. The potassium permanganate carbon oxidizes formaldehyde rather than only holding it, so it keeps working on the gases that off-gas continuously:
- Formaldehyde from flooring, cabinetry, pressed wood, and insulation
- Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) from paint, adhesives, and furnishings
- Benzene and toluene from paints, glues, and heating fuels
- Chemical fumes and odors from cleaning products and building materials
Airborne Particles (True HEPA 99.97% @ 0.3 Microns)
After the carbon stage, a sealed True HEPA filter captures the fine particles in indoor air:
- Dust and everyday household particles
- Pollen and pet dander
- Mold spores
- Fine smoke particles
How it works: air passes first through the deep permanganate carbon bed, which adsorbs and oxidizes formaldehyde and VOCs, then through the True HEPA media, which traps 99.97% of particles down to 0.3 microns.
Key Design Features
Potassium Permanganate Carbon Bed
18 lb of activated carbon impregnated with potassium permanganate in a 2-inch bed (570 sq in of surface). Permanganate is the chemistry that actually oxidizes formaldehyde, and the depth of the bed gives the air enough contact time to work on it on every pass.
High-Capacity Variable-Speed Motor
The F700 pushes up to 635 CFM, which cycles the air faster and covers more ground than the F600. Turn it down for quiet overnight filtration or up during active off-gassing, so one unit handles both continuous background cleaning and heavier events across a large space.
Sealed True HEPA Filtration
A certified True HEPA filter (40 sq ft of media) traps 99.97% of particles down to 0.3 microns. Pressure seals and felt gaskets force all incoming air through the filters instead of leaking around them, which is what keeps that rating honest in real use.
All-Metal Housing
Powder-coated steel with felt (not rubber) gaskets. No plastic or rubber off-gassing, which matters most in a unit whose entire job is clearing chemicals out of the air.
360° Perforated Steel Intake
The unit draws air in evenly from all sides and pushes it back out the same way, so it filters efficiently wherever it sits in an open room.
Regular or Super Gas? Choosing Your F700 Carbon
Every F700 ships with an 18 lb carbon bed, and both options cost the same, so this isn't a paid upgrade. You just pick the chemistry you need. For formaldehyde specifically, choose the Regular blend.
Regular F700 (Potassium Permanganate Blend)
- 18 lb activated carbon impregnated with potassium permanganate and coconut shell. Permanganate oxidizes formaldehyde and lighter VOCs, which is exactly what off-gassing materials release
- The right choice for formaldehyde, new-construction and renovation off-gassing, new furniture, and everyday VOCs
Super Gas 700 (Potassium Iodide Blend)
- 18 lb impregnated carbon with a potassium iodide and coconut shell blend, which is quicker to grab a broader range of lightweight gases
- A better fit when formaldehyde comes combined with solvents, strong mixed odors, or a heavier general chemical load, or for heightened chemical sensitivity (MCS)

Maintenance & Filter Life
The F700's filters each run on their own schedule, so you only replace the one that's due:
- Prefilter: vacuum through the grille periodically; replace about every 12 months
- Carbon filter: replace about every 2 years
- HEPA filter: replace about every 3 to 5 years, depending on use
Running it continuously on low is the simplest way to keep air quality steady across a large space. It draws about 40 watts on low and 120 watts on high, roughly a household light bulb. For best carbon performance, keep indoor humidity at 40% or less, since damp conditions reduce how well the carbon adsorbs.
Frequently Asked Questions
Should I get the F700 or the F600?
It comes down to the size of your space. Both use the same permanganate carbon, the same True HEPA, and the same Regular or Super Gas carbon choice. The F700 is the large-space unit: its stronger 635 CFM motor covers open floor plans, great rooms, and whole levels up to about 2,500 sq ft. The F600 is the better pick for a bedroom, a single room, or one level up to about 2,000 sq ft, which fits most homes. If your formaldehyde concern spans a large or open area, go with the F700.
How well does the F700 actually remove formaldehyde?
Airpura rates the F700 at up to 99% formaldehyde removal. The reason it works where a HEPA-only purifier can't is the potassium permanganate carbon, which chemically oxidizes formaldehyde rather than just trapping particles. Formaldehyde off-gasses slowly for months or years, so the F700 is built to run continuously, and its 635 CFM motor keeps pulling it out of the air across a large space. Keeping indoor humidity at 40% or less helps the carbon perform at its best.
How is the F-series different from the C, P, or G series?
They're built for different chemical jobs. The F700 is the formaldehyde specialist, with permanganate carbon tuned for the off-gassing from new construction and furnishings. The C700 carries a larger 26 lb carbon bed for a broad, heavy mix of household and industrial chemicals. The P700 adds a germicidal UV-C and photocatalytic stage for germs, mold, and viruses on top of chemical and particle filtration. The G700 is the fully sealed odor-free unit for the most sensitive MCS households. If new-home or new-furniture off-gassing is your issue, the F700 is the one aimed at it.
How much are replacement filters, and where do I get them?
You'll find genuine F700 replacement filters right here at Pure Indoor Living, starting at $69.98 for the prefilter. The carbon, HEPA, and prefilter each replace on their own schedule, so you only buy the one that's due rather than a full set every time.
Does the F700 produce ozone?
No. The F700 cleans air through carbon adsorption and True HEPA filtration, with no ozone-generating ionizer. That's what you want in a unit made for chemically sensitive households and new-construction air.
Does the F700 arrive assembled, and what's the warranty?
Yes, it ships as a single assembled unit on casters, with no tools or assembly required. Unpack it, plug it in, and choose your speed. It's backed by Airpura's 5-year parts and 10-year labor warranty and is ETL certified to ANSI/UL 507. See the User Manual for setup and filter-change details.
Is this a medical device?
No. The Airpura F700 is a residential and commercial air purifier for general indoor air quality. It is not a medical device and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease or health condition.
