The Airpura C600 is a chemical and gas abatement purifier, built for air that carries chemicals, fumes, and stubborn odors, not just dust. A regular particle filter has nothing to trap a gas, so the C600 leads with a deep bed of activated carbon that adsorbs VOCs, fumes, and smells as air passes through, backed by a HEPA-barrier post filter for particles.

It's the unit people reach for during a renovation, after new furniture or flooring goes in, or when cleaning products, smoke, and off-gassing make a home feel stuffy, and a common pick for people with chemical sensitivities. Need heavier carbon chemistry or a bigger room? The C600 DLX and C700 are compared below.

How the C600 Compares: C600 vs C600 DLX vs C700

All three are Airpura's chemical and gas abatement units, and all three carry the same 26 lb carbon load, the same all-metal build, and the same HEPA-barrier post filter. They separate on two things: how strong the carbon chemistry is, and how big a space the motor can handle. The C600 is the starting point. The C600 DLX keeps the same room size but swaps in a heavier impregnated carbon. The C700 keeps standard carbon but adds airflow for larger rooms.

Choose the C600 for chemical fumes, VOCs, and odors in a room up to about 2,000 sq ft, which covers most living rooms, bedrooms, and offices. The C600 DLX is worth the extra spend when your chemical load is heavy or persistent, since it fills the same size room but runs an enhanced impregnated carbon instead of standard. Prefer the C700 when the space is larger or more open, where its 635 CFM motor keeps the air turning over.

Not sure the C-series is the right line? If you mainly want everyday odor and allergen control, the Airpura R600 does that for less. For wildfire smoke and seasonal VOC spikes, look at the V600. If formaldehyde is your specific concern, the F600 is purpose-built for it.

Coverage is an estimate based on 8-ft ceilings and varies with layout, ceiling height, and pollutant levels.

Is the Airpura C600 Right for You?

The C600 is for homes where the air problem is chemical or odor-based, not simply dusty.

It's an especially strong fit if you:

✔ Are dealing with renovation off-gassing from new paint, flooring, cabinets, or furniture
✔ Notice VOCs or chemical fumes from cleaning products, hobbies, or building materials
✔ Live with chemical sensitivity or fragrance intolerance
✔ Want to clear lingering odors like smoke, cooking, or household chemicals
✔ Need real gas and odor control, not just particle capture

Great fit for:

Living rooms and open living areas up to about 2,000 sq ft
Bedrooms for people sensitive to chemicals or fragrance
Newly renovated or newly furnished spaces
Offices and studios where chemical products are in use
Apartments where odors travel in from neighboring units

What the Airpura C600 Removes

Airborne Chemicals, Gases & Odors (Activated Carbon)

The C600's job is the gas side of air quality, the part a HEPA-only unit can't touch. Its 26 lb carbon bed adsorbs a wide range of airborne chemicals and smells:

  • Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from paint, adhesives, flooring, and furniture
  • Chemical fumes from cleaning products, solvents, and household materials
  • Odors including tobacco smoke, cooking smells, and general household odor
  • Named gases such as ammonia, benzene, toluene, hydrogen sulfide, and sulfur dioxide

Airpura carbon blends are made to address over 4,000 named airborne chemicals, which is why the C-series is used well beyond the average home.

Particles (HEPA-Barrier Post Filter)

After air passes through the carbon bed, a HEPA-barrier post filter gives it a final pass on the way out. Its main job is to catch the tiny bits of carbon that naturally shed from the carbon filter as it works, so they don't drift back into the room, along with any dust the prefilter and carbon didn't already stop. The result: the air leaving the unit is clean of both the gases the carbon adsorbed and the particles from filtration itself.

Good to know: the C600 is a carbon-first, chemical-focused unit. If your main concern is allergens and fine particles rather than chemicals, a True HEPA model like the R600 or I600 is the better match.

Key Design Features

Deep 3-Inch Carbon Bed
26 lb of activated carbon in a 3-inch bed with about 570 square inches of surface. The depth gives the air longer contact (dwell) time, so more chemicals are captured on each pass through.

Pressure-Sealed Filter Chamber
Airpura's pressure seal and felt gaskets force all incoming air through the filters instead of letting it slip around them, so the carbon actually does its work on every pass.

All-Metal Housing
Powder-coated steel with felt (not rubber) gaskets and a separate electrical chamber. No plastic or rubber off-gassing, which matters most in a unit built for chemical sensitivity.

Motor Out of the Airflow
The motor sits outside the clean-air path, so filtered air isn't blown back over it and picking up contaminants on the way out.

Variable-Speed Motor
Turn airflow down for quiet continuous filtration or up when you need to clear a room fast.

Cleanable Prefilter
A washable prefilter catches larger dust before it reaches the carbon, which helps the carbon bed last longer.

Regular or Super Gas? Choosing Your C600 Carbon

Every C600 ships with a 26 lb carbon bed. The choice is how aggressive that carbon needs to be. You just pick the one you need.

Regular C600 (Standard)

  • 26 lb activated carbon, 100% coconut shell, made for broad removal of household odors, light chemical exposure, and everyday VOCs
  • Well-suited for cleaning product smells, cooking odors, light smoke, and general off-gassing from furniture and materials

Super Gas 600 (Potassium Iodide Impregnated)

  • 26 lb impregnated carbon, a blend of potassium iodide and coconut shell. The potassium iodide speeds up how quickly the carbon binds and removes chemicals
  • A better fit for renovation fumes, stronger chemical exposure, urban pollution, or chemical sensitivity (MCS) where standard carbon may not be enough

Fighting one specific chemical? Airpura offers over 400 carbon blends covering more than 4,000 named airborne chemicals. If you know what you're up against, contact us and we'll help you spec the right one. For a carbon that's impregnated by default, also see the C600 DLX.

Maintenance & Filter Life

The C600 is built for long service intervals with simple upkeep. It has three filters, each on its own schedule:

  • Prefilter: vacuum through the grille periodically; replace about every 12 months
  • HEPA-barrier post filter: replace about every 12 months
  • Carbon filter: replace about every 2 years, depending on how heavy your chemical load is

Running it continuously on low is the simplest way to keep gas and odor control steady. It draws about 40 watts on low and 120 watts on high, roughly a household light bulb. Keeping indoor humidity around 40% or lower also helps the carbon perform at its best.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I get the C600, C600 DLX, or C700?

Start with your space and your chemical load. The C600 covers rooms up to about 2,000 sq ft with standard activated carbon, which handles most household chemical and odor problems. The C600 DLX fits the same size room but runs an enhanced impregnated carbon for heavier or more persistent chemical exposure. The C700 keeps standard carbon and adds a stronger 635 CFM motor for larger, more open spaces up to about 2,500 sq ft.

What's the difference between the C600 and the C600 DLX?

Same chassis, same 560 CFM airflow, same 2,000 sq ft coverage, and the same 26 lb carbon amount. The difference is the carbon itself. The C600 uses standard activated carbon on a coconut-shell base, while the C600 DLX uses an enhanced impregnated carbon designed to adsorb a broader range of airborne chemicals and VOCs. If your air is heavy with chemicals rather than everyday odors, the DLX is the better call for the same room.

Will the C600 help with chemical sensitivity or renovation fumes?

Yes. This is exactly what the C-series is built for. The deep carbon bed adsorbs the VOCs and gases released by fresh paint, new flooring, cabinetry, adhesives, and furniture, and the all-metal, no-off-gassing construction avoids adding new smells of its own. For very heavy or persistent exposure, the C600 DLX and its impregnated carbon give you more headroom.

Does the C600 remove formaldehyde?

The C600's carbon does reduce a wide range of VOCs, and formaldehyde-related compounds are among the chemicals its blends can target. If formaldehyde is your main concern, though, Airpura makes a purpose-built line for it: the F600 uses a carbon specifically formulated to capture formaldehyde, which off-gasses slowly and is one of the harder pollutants to hold.

Is the C600 a HEPA air purifier? Will it help with allergies?

The C600 is a carbon-first, chemical and gas unit. It includes a HEPA-barrier post filter that catches carbon dust and particles, but it's not a certified True HEPA allergy purifier. If your priority is pollen, dust, pet dander, and fine particles, look at a True HEPA model instead, such as the everyday R600 or the allergy-focused I600.

How much are replacement filters, and where do I get them?

Genuine C600 replacement filters are available right here at Pure Indoor Living, starting at $69.98. The prefilter, HEPA-barrier, and carbon filter replace on different schedules, so you only buy the one that's due rather than a full set each time.

Does the C600 produce ozone?

No. The C600 cleans air by mechanical filtration only: carbon adsorption plus a particle post filter. There's no ionizer and no ozone-generating process, which is what you want in a unit made for chemically sensitive households.

Does the C600 arrive assembled?

Yes. The C600 ships as a single assembled unit on casters, with no tools or assembly required. Unpack it, plug it in, and choose your speed. See the User Manual for setup details.

What does the warranty cover?

The C600 is backed by Airpura's 5-year parts and 10-year labor warranty, which outlasts the first several sets of filters. The unit is also ETL certified to ANSI/UL 507.

Is this a medical device?

No. The Airpura C600 is a residential and commercial air purifier for general indoor air quality. It's not a medical device and isn't intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease or health condition.
